For most buyers, choose the complete laptop first and the VRAM number second. An 8GB laptop with the right price, power profile, display, and cooling can be the sensible purchase. Move to 12GB or 16GB when you want more margin for high-resolution assets, ray tracing, creation, or a longer ownership cycle. Buy 24GB for a workload that can explain why it needs 24GB—not simply because the number is larger.

Why VRAM is not performance
VRAM describes the graphics memory available to the GPU. It does not describe shader throughput, memory bandwidth, power allocation, cooling, firmware, CPU limits, or the speed of a specific game. A larger buffer can help when a workload exceeds a smaller one, but unused capacity does not create FPS.
