Benchmark Evidence
FRAMELIMIT currently relies primarily on official specifications, retailer data, and benchmark evidence from established hardware publications. Before results enter a comparison, we check the exact CPU and GPU configuration, GPU power limit, resolution, graphics preset, performance mode, and use of DLSS, FSR, frame generation, or ray tracing. Results that cannot be compared on a like-for-like basis are excluded rather than blended into a misleading average.
- Externally sourced results are labelled and cross-checked. Unless a page explicitly shows original FRAMELIMIT photos, the exact test configuration, and documented conditions, its measurements must be treated as third-party evidence rather than a FRAMELIMIT hands-on test.
- We prioritize sustained results, average FPS, and 1% lows rather than short peak numbers.
- GPU TGP is treated as a first-class spec; the same GPU name can perform very differently at different wattages.
- Noise and temperature are judged under sustained load, not short synthetic bursts only.
Benchmark Reporting Standard
Every new or migrated game result must identify the source, exact laptop configuration, GPU power, resolution, preset, ray-tracing mode, upscaler, quality mode, frame-generation state, driver when available, and test date. A missing value is shown as unavailable rather than estimated.

Published screen specifications are indexed separately in the gaming laptop display database. It identifies the exact model and source date, preserves missing fields, and does not convert catalog brightness or HDR labels into measured panel scores.

Average FPS is the primary throughput metric. 1% low describes the slowest one percent of frames and is more useful for judging stutter. Minimum FPS is a single worst sample and is kept separate from 1% low. Maximum FPS is shown only when a source publishes it, but it is not used to rank laptops because a brief peak is not representative of sustained play.
Target Game Suite
The target suite below is used when matching source data is available. It balances heavy raster, ray tracing, CPU-limited play, and esports. A laptop is not assigned a missing result and different presets are never averaged together.

For Radeon laptops, native FPS, FSR Upscaling, FSR Frame Generation, and driver-level AFMF are four different result types. AFMF is never presented as a native in-game FSR result. For GeForce laptops, DLSS Super Resolution, single Frame Generation, and Multi Frame Generation are also reported independently.
Synthetic Benchmarks
Steel Nomad is the preferred modern raster graphics test for high-end laptops. Speed Way or Port Royal provides a separate ray-tracing view. Time Spy Graphics remains useful when it is the only common result across older sources, but the Graphics, CPU, and overall scores must not be mixed. Cinebench 2024 single-core and multi-core results are reported separately from GPU scores.
Upscaling and Frame Generation
DLSS Super Resolution, DLSS Frame Generation, DLSS Multi Frame Generation, FSR Upscaling, FSR Frame Generation, AFMF, and XeSS are separate technologies. The site never uses the generic label "DLSS 4" or "FSR on" as a complete benchmark setting. RTX 40 supports DLSS Frame Generation and current DLSS model upgrades, while Multi Frame Generation is an RTX 50 feature. AMD FSR support depends on hardware, driver, and game integration.

How We Choose Winners
Category winners are not always the fastest laptop. A flagship winner may prioritize sustained performance and display quality, while a student or budget winner may prioritize price, battery, durability, and upgradeability. We also avoid recommending a laptop when the available listing points to a different model than the editorial pick.
