Thermals & Noise

The Legion 7i's cooling system uses a vapor chamber shared with the Pro 7i, keeping the RTX 5070 at 84°C under 30-minute sustained load. Fan noise peaks at 48dB — noticeably quieter than the Pro 7i due to the lower TGP. The 115W TGP held steady throughout our test with no throttling. Keyboard hotspot temperature is 38°C at the WASD area — comfortable for long sessions.

Display

The Legion 7i shares the Pro 7i's 16" 2560×1600 OLED panel at 240Hz — the same display found in laptops costing $600+ more. Infinite contrast ratio, true blacks, 100% DCI-P3 coverage, and a 0.2ms response time. At 400 nits peak brightness it's not as punchy as an IPS panel in a bright room, but for gaming in controlled lighting it's exceptional. The 240Hz refresh rate is noticeably smoother than the Legion 5i's 165Hz, and at RTX 5070 performance levels you can consistently hit 200+ fps in competitive titles to fully exploit it.

Pros & Cons

  • 4.5hr gaming battery
  • No PCIe Gen 5 storage unlike Pro 7i

Who Should Buy This?

BUY IT IF

You want an OLED display at mid-range pricing and game primarily at 1440p. Excellent all-round machine for single-player gaming.

SKIP IT IF

You need RTX 5080 performance for 4K gaming or content creation. Save $700 over the Pro 7i but check the performance gap is acceptable.

vs Legion Pro 7i Gen 10The Pro 7i costs $700 more ($2,899) for an RTX 5080 at 175W — roughly 25% more GPU performance. At 1440p with DLSS 4, the RTX 5070 here is rarely the bottleneck. The RTX 5080 matters at 4K or sustained ray tracing. If you game at 1440p, the Legion 7i is the smarter spend.
