Score Breakdown
Gaming Performance — 1440p Benchmarks
The Omen Max 16 sustains the full 175W TGP comfortably. In our 30-minute sustained load test it held within 3% of its peak performance throughout — matching the Legion Pro 7i and ahead of most MSI and Razer machines at the same spec on sustained loads.

Thermals — HP's Secret Weapon
HP has significantly improved Omen cooling over the past two generations. The dual-fan, five-heatpipe system keeps the RTX 5080 at 87°C peak — cooler than the Legion Pro 7i at the same TGP. CPU runs at 82°C. Fan noise at maximum reaches 49dB — loud, but 3dB quieter than the Legion. OMEN Gaming Hub's performance profiles work reliably.
Display
The 16-inch 2560×1600 IPS panel at 240Hz is excellent — 510 nits measured peak, 96% DCI-P3, response time 3ms. It's not OLED, but it's one of the better IPS panels in this tier. G-SYNC is supported. The main downside is backlight bleed in dark scenes — visible in a dark room. Acceptable at the price, but a known limitation of IPS technology.
Build Quality
The Omen Max 16 chassis is aluminium and solid, though it feels slightly less premium than the Razer Blade or Zephyrus. The keyboard is excellent — full-size with numpad, per-key RGB, good 1.5mm travel. Port selection is strong: 3× USB-A 3.2, 1× USB-C (Thunderbolt 4), 1× HDMI 2.1, SD card reader, 2.5G Ethernet. The 2TB storage as standard is a genuine differentiator at this price.

- Backlight bleed visible in dark scenes
- OMEN Gaming Hub software can feel bloated
